First, what are zero-click searches?

A zero-click search is when someone searches for something and gets the answer to their search query without ever leaving the search results page (SERP). In 2020, this search behavior accounted for almost 65% of all Google searches, this is up from 50% of searches in 2019.

It’s important to take into account the differences between mobile and desktop search behavior. In 2020,  zero-click searches accounted for 46.5% of desktop searches and 77.2% of mobile searches. The way people search and the types of answers they are looking for differs between devices.

What role do GMB listings play?

This is where the importance of your Google My Business (GMB) listing comes in. The amount of content you have on your GMB listing allows Google to ensure your business is showing up for relevant local searches. Think about this, without ever clicking over to your business website a potential customer can see on the search results page:

  • your business industry

  • a description of your business

  • customer reviews and review ratings

  • hours of operation

  • location proximity to them

  • higher in-store volume times

  • photos and more.

With Google My Business listings, a potential customer is able to get a good sense of if they want to do business with you without ever clicking or engaging on your website content. Make sure you’re telling a compelling story, because over 90% of people engage with a business that appears on the first page of a local search.
